The Win-Win Negotiation

The Win-Win Negotiation

True negotiation takes place when each side respects the other, and their point of view, and enters into the discussion positively. The following are some guidelines to 'win-win' solutions.

Before starting make sure that you know precisely what it is you want, and the maximum price you would be willing to pay whether the price is in money, time, emotions or anything else.

Enter the negotiations in a positive, friendly frame of mind. If you are feeling uptight and defensive, you are unlikely to reach any sort of solution with which you feel happy.

Do your homework. Have your facts at your fingertips. Nothing makes you so vulnerable in negotiations as ignorance.

Find out the interests of the other party. Ask them what they want from the meeting first before you even attempt to put your wishes across. You will often find that there are many more common areas of interests than you had anticipated, and that many of the barriers and obstacles you were expecting do not in fact exist.

One of the best ways to leverage yourself in negotiations is to have plenty of TIME! Those with whom you are negotiating may well have a deadline, and if they know that you are not in a hurry they will become more anxious to complete as time goes on, leaving you in the advantageous position.

Be sensitive to the other person's body language. This ability to read the signals people make unconsciously is an invaluable skill in negotiations.

Always negotiate from a win-win standpoint. If you do this, those with whom you are negotiating will be much warmer and more open to you. This will encourage them to negotiate with your interests in mind and the ideal situation of everybody negotiating for everybody else's benefit will be achieved.

Fresh Air

Fresh Air

A second a stranger’s glare,
A minute a lingering fragrance,
An hour a bonding reassurance,
A day an unsatisfiable muse,
A week a brave step forward,
A month an eternal matter,
A year a deep awakening to,
A lifetime of impossible reinstatement.

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji
____

Flesh and Spirit,
Weak and Willing.

Emotions and Control,
Temptation and Discipline.

A broken shell yet,
A place of grey security,
A regime of pride and intelligence,
An exotic destination thus long for.

Augment the enchantment,
With the Question posed .

Kill the magic,
Kill the foothold,
Kill the deception,
Kill the foolishness,
Kill the unceasing lure.
