Pastor Ulf Ekman - Extract from a msg in year 2005

This is really so important....... felt so inspired as I read it and decided to put it here......

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Year’s Eve Message for year 2005

The message Pastor Ulf Ekman delivered on New Year’s Eve was a serious one that related to the times we are living in. The key words were “Wake!” and “Watch!”

Here is a short summary of what was said:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to live right, we need to understand the times we live in. In Luke 17:33 Jesus says we are to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him. This is the only possible way in the end times.

In 2001, with the attack on the World Trade Centre, an alarm clock started to ring indicating that the world was changing. The Holy Spirit wants to make the body of Christ ready to face the dramatic time period we are entering, and Jesus urges us to lift our eyes because His return is drawing near.

The words the Lord has laid upon my heart for this year are “Wake!” and “Watch!”. We cannot watch if we are not awake, but even being awake does not automatically guarantee that we are watchful. The word “watch” entails gravity and commitment, and it demands our
total attention. It does not encompass fear or distress but clear insight concerning the grave times in which we are living and how we are to react. It does not rob us of joy but removes all listlessness or apathy.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 speaks about being awake and sober, that is, being aware of what is going on. It is possible to be awake but intoxicated by certain things, resulting in a selfish lifestyle where thoughts primarily revolve around ourselves and we are unaware of what is transpiring beyond ourselves.

To be awake and sober, on the other hand, means that the senses are sharp, that we are ready for changes and that we can relate to what is going on. Then God can give us many opportunities to influence our surroundings and spread God’s love to others.

Dare to say NO to the ego, to pleasure, to the love of money and to being politically correct. Dare to believe the Bible as it is; do not cut and paste to make it more palatable. A radical dechristianisation is occurring in Europe, visible in, among other things, the new EU constitution, in the mounting influence of Islam and in the more secularized and multicultural society that attacks the Gospel.

If we Christians do not wake up and become more sober-minded, there is a risk that Christianity will be driven away into oblivion beyond the horizon. The year 2005 is a year of last-minute grace.

The word “Watch!” is not meant to frighten but rather to challenge. If we are watchful, countless situations can be influenced and changed. In the midst of these pressing times, the Holy Spirit will do something new in Europe, and God will gain a whole family of worshippers.
